Combatives aren’t about winning a competition. Combatives are about prevailing in an unprovoked violent street attack. Preferably, prevailing means escaping. When escape isn’t possible, it means intentionally impairing your attacker to the point you’ve made him either unwilling or unable to hurt or kill you. It may also mean killing him if you have no other choice.

COMBATIVES METHODOLOGY

To Bang or Not to Bang — How hard is enough?

A question that invariably comes up is “How hard should I bang?” My honest answer is “As hard as you can stand it,” followed by, “but use some common sense.”

When you’re impact training on each other, how hard you strike depends on the technique, the scenario, the sequence, the weapon, whether you’re wearing any protective equipment and, most importantly, you and your training partners’ appetites for intensity.

Training Ground Rules

  1. No one gets to watch.

  2. Save the cheap shots for the street.

  3. Stick to the drill.

  4. ALWAYS protect yourself.
